Hurricane Erin is currently located about 260 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, moving quickly away from the U.S. East Coast. It is large in size, with hurricane-force winds extending 105 miles from its center and tropical storm-force winds extending out to 320 miles. Coastal flooding and tropical storm-force winds are ongoing along coastal parts of North Carolina and Virginia. The storm is causing rough waves, coastal flooding, and life- threatening rip currents along the East Coast, particularly impacting North Carolina's Outer Banks. Waves up to 20 feet are possible in this area. Though the storm is moving away from the U.S., tropical storm warnings remain in effect for the Outer Banks and parts of the Virginia coast. The hurricane continues to produce hazardous surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the U.S. East Coast, Bermuda, and Atlantic Canada. It is now shifting northeast, heading out to sea while still posing flooding risks and dangerous rip currents.
