Israel is a country in the Middle East region of West Asia, located at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the southwest. Israel also borders the Palestinian territories of the West Bank to the east and the Gaza Strip to the southwest. Its western coast lies on the Mediterranean Sea, and its southernmost point reaches the Red Sea. Jerusalem is the government's seat and proclaimed capital, while Tel Aviv is the largest city and economic center. Israel lies at the junction of three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa, but geographically it is considered part of Asia in the Middle East region.
