Latvia is a country located in the Baltic region of northern Europe. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, and Belarus to the southeast. Latvia also shares a maritime border with Sweden to the west across the Baltic Sea. The country lies roughly between latitudes 55° and 58° North and longitudes 21° and 28° East, placing it in the Northern and Eastern Hemispheres. Its capital and largest city is Riga. Latvia is one of the three Baltic states, along with Estonia and Lithuania, and covers an area of about 64,589 square kilometers.
