The Great British Bake Off is primarily filmed at Welford Park in Berkshire, England. The iconic white tent is set up on the grounds of the Welford Park Estate, alongside the Grade-I Listed Welford Park House and its round-tower church. Filming usually starts in April and lasts for about 10 weeks over the spring and summer. Before moving to Welford Park in 2014, the show was filmed in various other locations including Harptree Court in Somerset, Valentines Mansion in Redbridge, and different spots across the UK during its first series. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the series was temporarily relocated to Down Hall Hotel in Bishop’s Stortford, Essex, for safety reasons but returned to Welford Park afterwards. Welford Park is a private estate in Newbury, Berkshire, known for its beautiful gardens and historical significance, and although the estate itself is private, the Snowdrop Gardens open to the public seasonally. Contestants stay in local hotels since the estate does not accommodate overnight stays for them or visitors during filming.
