The “Gates of Hell” most commonly refers to the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan, a continuously burning crater in the Karakum Desert near the village of Darvaza. It has been erupting flames since a drilling accident in 1971 and is a well-known landmark due to its fiery glow.
