Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone monolith located near the center of Australia in the southern part of the Northern Territory. It lies about 335 kilometers (208 miles) southwest of Alice Springs, which is the nearest major town. The formation is situated within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rock stands 348 meters (1,142 feet) high, with a total circumference of 9.4 kilometers (5.8 miles), and is a prominent natural landmark in Australia's Red Centre.
