Uluru is located in the southern part of the Northern Territory, Australia, near the geographic center of the country. It lies within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, about 335 km southwest of Alice Springs, which is the nearest major town. Uluru is just east of Kata Tjuta and is a prominent sandstone monolith in the Australian Outback's Red Centre region. The park and rock hold great cultural significance for the Anangu people, the Traditional Owners of the land.
