Windsor Castle is located in the town of Windsor, in the English county of Berkshire, about 25 miles (40 km) west of central London. It stands on a ridge at the northeastern edge of the district of Windsor and Maidenhead, overlooking the south bank of the River Thames. It is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and an official residence of the British monarch.
