Ed Gein's house was located on a 155-acre farm in the town of Plainfield, Wisconsin. He lived there with his family until the deaths of his father and brother, after which he lived alone on the farm. The house became infamous after his arrest in 1957. Following his capture, the house, along with the outbuildings and the surrounding land, was scheduled for auction. However, on March 20, 1958, the house was destroyed by fire under suspicious circumstances, and the cause was never officially determined. The property was in Plainfield, Wisconsin, and no longer stands today due to the fire incident.
