Guy Fawkes was from York, England. He was born there in 1570, likely in a house on Stonegate, and was baptized at St Michael le Belfry church in York. His father was a prominent Protestant church lawyer in the city, but after his father's death, his mother remarried a recusant Catholic which influenced Fawkes to convert to Catholicism later in life. He was educated in York and was involved in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 as part of a group of provincial English Catholics.
