The American Revolution was primarily fought in the Thirteen Colonies of British North America, which later became the United States. Key locations of the conflict included cities and regions like Boston, Massachusetts; Albany and West Point, New York; Charleston, South Carolina; Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Staunton in Virginia; Wilmington, North Carolina; and areas in New Hampshire and Delaware, among others. The war involved battles, sieges, and military campaigns across these and other locations in North America, with the decisive victory occurring at the Siege of Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781. The conflict also extended to other areas, including parts of the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean as the war had global dimensions due to involvement by France, Spain, and the Netherlands alongside the American colonists against Britain. The American Revolution thus took place mainly in North America but had international aspects as well.
