The Quran was revealed over 23 years primarily in two key locations: Makkah and Madinah. The very first verses of the Quran were revealed in the Cave of Hira, located on Jabal al-Noor (the Mountain of Light) near Makkah. This event marked the beginning of the revelation when the angel Jibreel delivered the message to Prophet Muhammad.

During the early phase in Makkah, the revelations mainly focused on beliefs and monotheism. After the migration to Madinah, the revelations included laws and community matters as the Muslim community established itself as a state.

Additionally, there is a mention in Islamic tradition that the Quran was revealed also in the Levant (al-Sham) region, though the primary and most acknowledged places are Makkah and Madinah.
