The Ukrainian girl who was stabbed, Iryna Zarutska, was stabbed on board a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) light rail train, specifically on the Lynx Blue Line near the East/West Boulevard light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was attacked on the train itself during the ride, after boarding at the East/West Boulevard station, in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte. The stabbing occurred on August 22, 2025, and she was pronounced dead at the scene on the train.
