Before becoming the Arizona Cardinals, the team was originally established in Chicago in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club. It was known as the Chicago Cardinals when it joined the NFL as a charter member in 1920. The franchise then moved to St. Louis in 1960, where it was known as the St. Louis Cardinals. Finally, the team relocated to Arizona in 1988, initially playing in Tempe before becoming the Arizona Cardinals officially in 1994.
