The Apollo mission that first landed humans on the Moon was Apollo 11. It landed on July 20, 1969, with astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descending to the lunar surface in the Lunar Module Eagle, while Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module Columbia. Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon about six hours after landing, followed by Aldrin, and they spent about two and a half hours exploring before returning to Earth.
