The city that is the birthplace of Islam is Mecca (Makkah) in Saudi Arabia. It is where the Islamic prophet Muhammad was born around 570 CE and is considered the holiest city in Islam. Mecca is also the site where Muhammad received the first revelations of the Quran and holds the Kaaba, the most sacred structure toward which Muslims pray worldwide.
