The Wampanoag tribe taught the Plymouth colonists how to cultivate the land and they shared in the early Thanksgiving meal. Massasoit and his people provided aid during the first harsh winter and helped the settlers grow maize and other crops, which supported the harvest and the later feast that included both groups.
