The theorist who proposed the concept of individuation as a process of transformation-whereby the personal and collective unconscious are brought into consciousness to be assimilated into the whole personality-is Carl Gustav Jung. Jung described individuation as a lifelong psychological process of self-realization and integration, involving the synthesis of opposites such as conscious and unconscious, personal and collective unconscious. This process leads to the development of a whole and balanced personality by integrating various unconscious contents (e.g., shadow, anima/animus) into conscious awareness. Individuation is central to Jung's analytical psychology and represents the path to achieving psychological wholeness and self- understanding
