The part of the neuron that communicates an electrical signal to the target tissue is the axon. The axon transmits the nerve impulse away from the neuron's cell body to the axon terminals, where the signal is passed to the target tissue via synapses using chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. The axon can branch and connect to multiple target cells, allowing communication with various tissues.
