Millennials, also known as Generation Y or Gen Y, are the demographic cohort born roughly between the early 1980s and the mid-1990s to early 2000s, typically defined as people born from 1981 to 1996. They follow Generation X and precede Generation Z. Millennials are often the children of baby boomers and older Gen Xers and are noted for being the first generation to grow up during the rise of the Information Age and widespread internet use. They experienced the transition to the year 2000, witnessed significant events like the 9/11 attacks, and came of age during economic challenges such as the Great Recession. This generation is characterized by their familiarity and adaptability to digital technology, higher levels of formal education, more ethnic diversity, and progressive political views compared to earlier generations. They tend to value collaboration, authenticity, work-life balance, and are influential in the workplace. Millennials have also faced economic hardships including youth unemployment, student debt, and delayed life milestones such as marriage and childbirth, compared to previous generations.
