Impeachment proceedings against the President of India can be initiated by either house of the Parliament—either the Lok Sabha (House of the People) or the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). The process begins when at least one- fourth of the members of that house sign a notice of impeachment, which must be given to the President 14 days in advance. After this, the house takes up the charges for consideration. If the impeachment motion is passed by a two- thirds majority of the total membership of that house, it is sent to the other house for investigation and approval. If the other house also passes the impeachment resolution by a two-thirds majority of its total membership, the President stands impeached and is removed from office
