Hatsune Miku was created by Crypton Future Media, with the software developer Sasaki Wataru playing a key role in developing the Vocaloid software that makes a computer sing. The voice of Hatsune Miku is modeled from the Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. The character design was done by the manga artist Kei Garō, who created her distinctive image of a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise twintails based on the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer as a motif. Crypton Future Media released Hatsune Miku in 2007 as the first of their "Character Vocal Series" Vocaloids, combining advanced singing synthesizer technology with an appealing virtual idol persona.
