The Griddy was created by Allen “Griddy” Davis, a high school football player from Louisiana, in 2018. His dance gained wider popularity after being shared and picked up by LSU players and then brought into the NFL by Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, helping propel it into a viral phenomenon around 2019–2020. Davis is widely recognized as the originator of the move itself, while Jefferson and Chase helped popularize it at higher levels of competition and among broader audiences.
