Ed Gein killed two women: Mary Hogan, a tavern owner, in 1954, and Bernice Worden, a hardware store owner, in 1957. He was found guilty of Worden's murder but declared legally insane and confined to psychiatric institutions. There is suspicion but no proof that he may have been involved in the death of his elder brother, who died in a fire under mysterious circumstances. Gein's crimes also included exhuming corpses from graves and making objects from their bones and skin for macabre purposes.
