Canelo Álvarez has lost only twice in his professional boxing career. His two losses were to:
- Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 14, 2013, by majority decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. At the time, Mayweather was undefeated and considered one of the best defensive boxers in history. This fight cost Canelo his WBC and The Ring super welterweight titles.
- Dmitry Bivol on May 7, 2022, by unanimous decision at light heavyweight for the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title. Bivol's size, jab, and footwork outmatched Canelo in this fight.
Both opponents were undefeated champions at the time they defeated Canelo.
