The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeachment in the United States. This power is conferred by Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution. The House determines whether to impeach a federal official by approving articles of impeachment through a majority vote. After impeachment by the House, the Senate has the sole power to try the impeachments and decide on conviction and removal from office.
