Patrón tequila was invented (founded) by John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley in 1989. They created the brand known for its high-quality tequila made from 100% Weber Azul agave. Dan Aykroyd, the actor, is sometimes mistakenly thought to have invented Patrón, but he did not; he has his own vodka brand called Crystal Head Vodka which is unrelated to Patrón.
