White Out was invented by Bette Nesmith Graham in the 1950s. She was a secretary and artist who needed a way to efficiently correct typewriter errors. Drawing from her artistic background, she created a correction fluid initially called "Mistake Out" by mixing tempera paint and other ingredients. She later founded the Mistake Out Company and eventually renamed the product Liquid Paper, which became a widely used office supply.
