D'Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer (February 11, 1974 – October 14, 2025), was an influential American R&B and neo-soul musician. He is widely regarded as one of the definitive neo-soul acts and was recognized by Billboard as one of the greatest R&B artists. Rolling Stone ranked him 75th on its list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. He rose to fame with his debut album "Brown Sugar" in 1995, which helped usher in the neo-soul movement with hits like "Lady" and "Brown Sugar." His second album "Voodoo" (2000) topped the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy for Best R&B Album, featuring the acclaimed single "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." After dealing with personal struggles, including addiction, he made a successful comeback in 2014 with his album "Black Messiah," which also won a Grammy. D'Angelo passed away at age 51 on October 14, 2025, after a battle with cancer, leaving behind a significant musical legacy.
