Ed Gein, full name Edward Theodore Gein, was an American murderer and grave robber born on August 27, 1906, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He became infamous in the late 1950s after authorities discovered that he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and made household items and clothing out of human body parts. He was convicted of the 1957 murder of Bernice Worden and confessed to killing another woman, Mary Hogan, in 1954. Gein was found legally insane and spent the remainder of his life in psychiatric institutions until his death in 1984. His gruesome crimes inspired several horror movies, including "Psycho," "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," and "The Silence of the Lambs".
