Veterans Day honors all military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed annually on November 11 and was originally established as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I; it was later renamed Veterans Day to explicitly recognize the service of all veterans, living and dead. This day is distinct from Memorial Day, which specifically honors those who died in military service, and Armed Forces Day, which celebrates currently serving members.
