James Madison is known as the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting, promoting, and helping to ratify the Constitution of the United States. He was instrumental in organizing the Constitutional Convention, where his Virginia Plan served as the basis for discussions. Madison also co-wrote The Federalist Papers with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, which were key in convincing the states to ratify the Constitution. Furthermore, he played a central role in the creation of the Bill of Rights to protect individual liberties. Despite being called the "Father of the Constitution," Madison himself acknowledged that the Constitution was the work of many individuals. He later served as the fourth president of the United States.
