The head football coach for the University of Michigan as of 2025 is Sherrone Moore. He became the 21st head coach of the Michigan Wolverines on January 26, 2024, succeeding Jim Harbaugh. Moore is the first African American to be hired as Michigan's head coach. In his first season in 2024, he led the team to an 8–5 record, including wins over rival teams Michigan State, Ohio State, and Alabama. As of September 2025, Moore is serving a suspension for two games due to his involvement in a sign-stealing scandal from the 2023 season. During his suspension, associate head coach Biff Poggi is serving as the interim head coach for those games, including the Week 4 game against Nebraska. Thus, the official head coach is Sherrone Moore, although Biff Poggi has been acting as head coach temporarily during Moore's suspension in 2025.
