Mitt Romney is an American businessman and retired politician. He served as a United States senator from Utah from 2019 to 2025 and was the 70th governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. Romney was the Republican Party's nominee for president in the 2012 U.S. presidential election. He is known for his business career, including founding Bain Capital, and for successfully leading the organization of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where he turned around a significant financial deficit. Romney is also noted for being a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and for his distinctive political career, including his votes during the impeachment trials of President Donald Trump. He announced in 2023 that he would not seek reelection to the Senate in 2024.
