A payee is the person or business designated to receive a payment. This can be in the form of cash, check, electronic transfer, or other payment methods. On a check, the payee's name is written on the line that says "pay to the order of," and only the payee can cash or deposit the check. The payee is distinct from the payer (or payor), who is the one sending the payment. The payee is the recipient of funds in exchange for goods, services, or other financial obligations.
