Cards Against Humanity was created by a group of eight friends who were mostly alumni of Highland Park High School in Illinois.
Creators
The co-founders include Max Temkin, Josh Dillon, Daniel Dranove, Eli Halpern, Ben Hantoot, David Munk, David Pinsof, and Eliot Weinstein. They initially developed the game as a homemade project using construction paper for their New Year's Eve parties around 2009.
Development
Inspired by games like Apples to Apples and Mad Libs, the group refined the concept and launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2010, which led to its commercial release. The game, known for its irreverent and often offensive humor, quickly became a top-selling party game on platforms like Amazon. In 2020, Max Temkin resigned from the company amid allegations of fostering a toxic workplace culture.
