Puma was created by Rudolf Dassler, a German shoemaker and businessman.
Founder
Rudolf “Rudi” Dassler founded Puma in 1948 in Herzogenaurach, Germany, after splitting from the joint shoe company he had run with his brother Adolf “Adi” Dassler. Adolf went on to create Adidas, while Rudolf’s new company evolved into the global sportswear brand Puma.
Company origin
Before Puma existed, the two brothers had already founded the “Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory,” which made sports shoes in their hometown. After their relationship deteriorated, Rudolf registered his own firm that was soon renamed “Puma Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler,” marking the official birth of Puma as a brand.
