Royal Mail is owned by EP Group, a Czech-based company owned by billionaire Daniel Křetínský. The takeover of Royal Mail by EP Group was approved by the UK government in December 2024 and completed in April 2025, marking the first time Royal Mail came under foreign ownership. Despite the change in ownership, Royal Mail remains headquartered in the UK, and the government has retained a "golden share" to approve major changes. EP Group has committed to maintaining Royal Mail’s services, workforce protections, and UK tax residency, with a mission to modernize and make it a successful postal operator while upholding key service obligations such as the universal service of delivering letters six days a week.
