The first person to say "Eureka!" was the ancient Greek mathematician and inventor Archimedes. He is famously credited with this exclamation upon discovering a method to determine the volume of irregular objects by the displacement of water. This insight reportedly occurred when he stepped into a bath and noticed the water level rise, leading him to realize how to measure the purity of a gold crown for King Hiero of Syracuse. Allegedly, Archimedes was so excited by his discovery that he leapt out of his bathtub and ran through the streets shouting "Eureka!" which means "I have found it!" in Greek. The story dates back over 2,000 years and remains a classic example of sudden inspiration in science and mathematics.
