Butch Cassidy was the alias of Robert LeRoy Parker (born April 13, 1866, in Beaver, Utah). He was an American train and bank robber and the leader of a notorious gang of outlaws called the "Wild Bunch" who operated in the American Old West during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Cassidy was known for his cleverness, charm, and non-violent approach to crime, as he is not believed to have ever killed anyone. He led a series of successful bank and train robberies primarily in the western United States, including Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Cassidy eventually fled the United States with his accomplice, the Sundance Kid, and traveled to South America, where they are believed to have died in a shootout with Bolivian authorities around 1908. Cassidy remains one of the best-known figures of the "Wild West" outlaw legend.
