Dick Cheney served as the 46th vice president of the United States, in office from January 20, 2001, to January 20, 2009, under President George W. Bush. He was a longtime Republican politician and administrator, previously serving as Secretary of Defense from 1989 to 1993 under President George H. W. Bush, and as White House Chief of Staff in the Ford administration.
