The Duchess of Kent was Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley, born in 1933 in Yorkshire. She married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1961. Katharine was noted for stepping back from royal duties to become a primary school music teacher and was known for her lifelong passion for music and empathy for young people. She passed away in 2025 at the age of 92. She was the oldest living member of the royal family following Queen Elizabeth II's death and was recognized publicly for presenting the Ladies' Singles Trophy at Wimbledon for many years. She converted to Catholicism in 1994, becoming the first senior British royal to do so in centuries, and her funeral was the first Catholic funeral for a member of the royal family in modern history.
