The first Vice President of India was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He served as Vice President from May 13, 1952, to May 12, 1962, and was also the first ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He later became the second President of India, serving from 1962 to 1967. His birth anniversary on September 5 is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India.
