The last Moorish ruler of Spain was Boabdil, also known as Muhammad XII or Emir Muhammad XI. He was the last Nasrid sultan of Granada, the final Muslim- ruled kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula. Boabdil's reign lasted from 1482 to 1492, marked by internal strife and the pressure of the Christian Reconquista led by Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. He surrendered the city of Granada on January 2, 1492, symbolizing the end of Muslim sovereignty in Spain after nearly seven centuries of Islamic rule. This event also marked the completion of the Christian Reconquista in the region. Boabdil's legacy is complex, often seen as a tragic figure caught in the political turmoil of his time.
