The first people on Earth, anatomically modern humans, are known as Homo sapiens. They evolved in Africa about 315,000 years ago. Before Homo sapiens, there were other hominin species such as Homo habilis, Homo erectus, and Neanderthals, with Homo habilis known as one of the earliest species in the Homo genus, living around 2.4 to 1.4 million years ago. Human evolution was a long process involving multiple species that lived, evolved, and sometimes interbred over millions of years, starting from apelike ancestors that lived around 6 to 9 million years ago. Modern Homo sapiens are the only surviving members of the human tribe today, having emerged through a complex evolutionary history primarily in Africa.
