The next prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) is expected to be Dallin H. Oaks. He will succeed Russell M. Nelson, who passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 101. Oaks is the most senior apostle in the church following Nelson's death, and it is customary for the senior- most apostle to become the new prophet and president of the LDS Church. Oaks, aged 93, has been an apostle since 1984 and served as the president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The formal selection of the new president will take place after President Nelson's funeral.
