The Winter Fuel Payment 2025 will be given to people who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Born on or before 21 September 1959 (i.e., have reached state pension age).
• Living in England or Wales during the qualifying week (15 to 21 September 2025).

You will not be eligible if you live outside England or Wales, were in hospital receiving free treatment for the entire qualifying week and the year before, need permission to enter the UK and your leave states you cannot claim public funds, or were in prison for the whole qualifying week. The payment amount is either £200 or £300 per household, with the higher amount given if someone in the household is 80 years or older. The payment is usually made automatically into the same account as your State Pension or other benefits starting from mid-November 2025. If your total income exceeds £35,000 per year, the payment will be reclaimed through the tax system. Residents of Scotland do not get this payment; they may be eligible for a different heating payment from the Scottish Government instead.
