The winner of the 2025 Kentucky Derby was Sovereignty, ridden by jockey Junior Alvarado. Sovereignty won the 151st running of the race at Churchill Downs, finishing in a time of 2:02.31 on a muddy track. Sovereignty edged out the favorite, Journalism, by 1 1/2 lengths to claim victory. This marked the first Kentucky Derby win for both Sovereignty's owner Godolphin and jockey Junior Alvarado, and the second Derby win for trainer Bill Mott
