The book of Exodus was traditionally written by Moses. This view is supported by internal biblical evidence where Moses is commanded to write down events (Exodus 17:14, 24:4, 34:27) and reinforced by New Testament references, including Jesus citing Moses as the author (Mark 7:10, Mark 12:26). Moses, with his education in the Egyptian royal court, is believed to have had the ability to write this historical and religious text during the Israelites' 40 years wandering in the wilderness, approximately between 1440 and 1400 BC. Some modern scholars question the sole Mosaic authorship, proposing that Exodus may have been compiled from multiple sources over time, but traditional and conservative scholarship strongly attributes the book to Moses.
