Kingda Ka, the world's tallest roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, closed permanently in late 2024. The closure was due to operational and maintenance challenges, including the high costs and reliability issues associated with the aging ride. The decision to close and remove Kingda Ka was also part of plans by Six Flags Great Adventure to clear space for future developments, including a new multi-record-breaking launch roller coaster set to debut in 2026. The ride was demolished in early 2025 after its closure was confirmed by the park in November 2024.

In addition, Kingda Ka's closure was connected to the removal of other rides such as Zumanjaro (a drop tower attached to Kingda Ka), Green Lantern, and others, to make way for new attractions. The ride did not receive a proper sendoff partly because the park chose not to invest in offseason maintenance for 2025 anticipating the closure. Structural issues with Zumanjaro and state requirements to fix it might have further complicated continued operation, leading to earlier closure of the complex.

Overall, the closure reflects both the high maintenance costs and strategic planning for new attractions at the park.
